Peter Weller lecture poster

I designed the poster to announce two lectures by actor, director and art historian Peter Weller. As he spoke on connections between the Renaissance and the current eras in painting and film, the artwork blends and updates religious imagery, methods and styles. (That’s a background from a Giotto painting behind the top portrait.) According to Dr. Weller’s note on my signed copy, “I have never looked better.”

In the Design Observer collection

My article “I Believe in Design,” originally published on the Design Observer blog, has been included in the new compendium of writings from the site Culture Is Not Always Popular: Fifteen Years of Design Observer. The book was edited by site co-founders Michael Bierut and Jessica Helfand and published by the MIT Press.

Vaughan Oliver: Archive

I am quoted in the new Vaughan Oliver: Archive, published by Unit Editions. The book is a two-volume collection of  “…the stuff other designers threw away: proofs, running sheets, paper labels for vinyl records, original artwork for classic album covers, videotapes, books and the weird ephemera that was the source of inspiration for many of his most famous works.” The quote is taken from my essay “Beauty: Entropy” from the catalog for the Vaughan Oliver Walking Backwards exhibition in 2017.

On Emigre in HOW

I wrote a short appreciation of Emigre magazine as part of the article “The Most Influential Designs of the Past 33 Years” by Jason Tselentis in HOW magazine. The issues shown with the article are from my own collection. I contributed to the magazine from 1996 to its final issue in 2005.
